What does workmen's compensation cover?

The policy pays the compensation an employer is liable for when an employee suffers a work-related accident or occupational disease — including medical expenses, benefits for temporary or permanent disability, and a death benefit to dependants. It also covers the legal costs of handling such claims, removing a potentially serious cost from the business.

Is it a legal requirement for employers?

Ghanaian law makes employers liable to compensate workers for injury or disease arising out of and in the course of employment. Workmen's Compensation insurance is how responsible employers fund that liability, and it is frequently required to win contracts and satisfy regulators.
